“Hi Cheri & Jon, It was such a pleasure to get meet and get to know you two this week in Washington at the National Inhalant Press Conference. I am amazed at your courage to spread your message about your beautiful daughter. We created a 1-pager information sheet about Kaitlyn's Promise orange bracelets. I'm going to give these out to the kids on Monday. I hope we keep in touch and feel free to email me anytime. Praying for you guys! May God Bless, Summer Deepe

“It's 3:00 am, Tuesday, March 18th and I'm searching the internet trying to understand "huffing" and the use of Dust Off as a drug. My brother died Friday 3-14-08 and I just found out tonite that it was while using Dust Off. I had never heard of this before and am completely shocked at how much there is on the internet concerning this product. Can you tell me more about the National Inhalant Press Conference that you were at on the day my brother died?

Cheri Vallery replies:

“Bobbi,

I am so sorry to hear about your brother. Please know that your family is in our prayers. We were in Washington sharing Kaitlyn's story and like you we did not know much about inhalant abuse before Kaitlyn died. www.inhalants.org is a great place to start looking for info. Please contact me at cheri.vallery@gmail.com. I would love to talk to you more.

“cheri,
Hi, i just heard your speech about kaitlyn today in one of my classes and was so heartbroken to hear her story! if something happened to one of my friends i dont know what i would do. i dont know how you could have the strength to talk about a loved ones death. i know i couldnt. i would just break down every time i tried. god has really blessed you with amazing strength! kaitlyn's story has really touched my life and i will never let my freinds get away with doing drugs (although i am proud to say i dont know anyone that has ever done drugs). your family will be in my prayers and i will pass her story on to lots and lots of people and have already told it to 3 of my close freinds. i know kaitlyn is now in a better place and is watching over everyone!

“I would like to share a letter written by a dear friend of Kaitlyn’s. Courtney I am so proud of you for talking about Kaitlyn’s Promise and honored you invited us to attend the Ms Montgomery County Pageant to hear you read your monologue

Dear Kaitlyn,
I wanted to say that I am sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't a better friend. I'm sorry I strayed away from you when I should have never left your side. I remember the first time I saw you. We were in Geometry class together. All you could talk about was how proud and how happy you were that you were 9 months sober, yet I couldn't relate. I remember how we became such good friends. I would look forward to walking into first period every morning to hear your chipper voice say "Hey Girlfriend!"Most of all, I remember the last time I saw you. It was the Friday before your precious life was taken. We exchanged glances and smiles in the hallway, but there was no "Hey girlfriend!", for I allowed our friendship to whither away. Little did I know that would be the last time I would ever see your smile.

How did I lose you Kaitlyn? Never did I imagine that Sunday night, August 27, 2006, you would have breathed your very last breath. The immense feeling that came to me and has never left me since the day you died, is the feeling of knowing I could have done something to help save your life, but I didn't. Which is why, I will not let my mistake be someone else's mistake. You have created the desire in my heart to share your story, and I will. I will carry on your promise Kaitlyn, and that is my promise to you. Your death will not be in vain.
I LOVE YOUU GIRLFRIEND!!!

“Kaitlyns story really hit close to home because I lost my Best friend to inhalants almost 6 years ago. She was also only 16. She had been doing this secretly for awhile when it finally took its toll on her. It was one of the most difficult things I had to face in my life. I know that together we can all make a difference. I will definately keep this going for both Kaitlyn and my best friend.

“So I know that this time of year is hard for family and friends of Kaitlyn's. I am praying for all of you b/c this would have been the year she would have graduated. I hope Kaitlyn played a big role in each and every class mate's life. I hope her promise made them realize the dangers and gave them the courage to make her proud! I feel as if I knew Kaitlyn b/c she was my age and had a world of dreams just like me, so I wear her promise every day on my wrist. I tell her story very often and hope to make a difference.

My son came home from school one day and said dad i have something for you,I looked at him kinda funny and said what is it Justin? He said he had given one to Mom already and his brother too. He handed me a Bracelet that said "Kaitlynspromise" on it. I had no idea what it was and he told me the story. You see my son attended Shattered Lives @ New Caney High School and was so reluctant about participating in the program that he almost didnt do it, The advise I gave him was to go do it and he would understand so many things that he thought he already new aboout. Also I told him that I have never mislead him and I never would so just do it! He did and has since graduated and is looking at life so differently now, Not only did it open his eyes it changed his life. Thank You for sharing in your loss to help change the lives of others you dont even know, Your story touched my son and the rest of my family and for that i am eternily grateful. Thank You and God Bless

We recieved Kaitlyn's Promise bracelets to help promote our National Inhalant and Poison Abuse Awareness Week. Our campaign was a great success and the kids are still wearing Kaitlyn's bracelets. Our teachers were given Kaitlyn's story about your tragic loss and used it to explain the dangers of inhalants. The photo's I sent show some of our Youth Crime Watch and Peer Mediation students wearing the bracelets. Thank you again for your donation of the bracelets, without you and your love for Kaitlyn our campaign would not have been as successful. God Bless, Deputy Tracy Normandin

hey Ms. Cheri, my name is Vivian Le and you do not really know me, but i was a very close friend of Jordans. I went to Red River Academy and i got pulled on Friday afternoon to go home for good. I've heard many stories from Jordan about Kaitlyn. the goods and the bads. I know how Jordan and Kaitlyn were so close that I know that she would even consider her as her own sister. Jordan tries not to think about Kaitlyn as much in the program, but she does. Its not that she wants to push and avoid the memories, its more of her not wanting to dwell about something she can not change. I also hear Jordan talking about you as well Ms.Cheri. She feels like you are a second mom to her and how thank ful she was for you to be by her side when she was at home. Before I left, I got to say goodbye to everyone and I left behind my Blue Clues stuffed animal for Jordan to have, because we have became like best friends. She also wanted me to have something that meant alot to her as well, cause we planned on when she was coming home, that I was going to be a support system for her, and she was gonna be a support system for me as well. We planned on seeing each other soon, since i talked to Ms.Kim, and i can ask her what is going on and stuff. Jordan wanted me to wear kaitlyns bracelet for her. for now. i promised her that i would, it is on my right arm. I may not know Kaitlyn, but just hearing about her, makes me feel like i do. She had asked me to visit this web page, and she wants me to visit Kaitlyns grave. I also plan on doing that as well. Jordan was procrastinating whether or not she wanted me to hold the bracelet right now, she was afraid that she would be "betraying" Kaitlyn. I would reassure her that everything was gonna be okay, and that i had promised her that it was going to be in good hands. that when she came home, I would give her bracelet back and she would give me my bear back. it would be like a tradeoff. It was hard leaving Red River because I had built so many good relationships with the girls. but most of all with Jordan. This was my second time in the program and the first time I got sent away, I had just turned 14 years old. i went to Cross Creek Academy in LaVerkin , Utah for two months. Then i got transferred to midwest Academy in Keokuk, Iowa because I was getting to comfortable in the first program and it was around $6,000 a month and my parents felt like it was too expensive. I got in the program the first time for, drugs, drinking, fighting, sex, running away, disrespect, lieing, stealing, getting in trouble with the law, not going to school and wanting to drop out, i never had a relationship with my parents. I just chose not to talk to them. I put all my friends before my family and never cared about life. All i cared about was having parties and getting that high just so i could feel accepted by them. But I was in Midwest for a year in a half. I was a level 5 and i got pulled out of the program because we were suppose to go to PC2, but my mom a nd dad decided instead of using the money for that trip, she felt like i was ready to come home. My parents were never commited to the program. I came home for my Junior Year to a new neighborhood and school. I made new friends. this time, i was going back to being disrespectful, lieing, and i had a boyfriend. i went against what my parents said. they didnt want me dating at a young age, they thought that i was going to "give up" with school since i was so worried about a boy. On february 6th 2007, i got escorted to Red river during school. I've been at red river for only two months a 2 weeks. They pulled me because I had finished with high school and now i am home for good. and i plan to be home for good. right now, i am planning to go look for a job and save up for college. I just wanted to let you know about myself, and how I knew about you and Kaitlyn. because of Jordan, there are no accidents why i she was in my life, and why i had came into RedRiver. She has made a huge impact on me and how dreams do come true. i hope that you do get this message and email me back whenever you can. it was a pleasure talking to you. always and forever -Vivian and Jordan PS: Jordan loves you alot Kaitlyn, you were like a sister to her. You'll never be forgotten.

Everytime i meet someone knew and the subject of drugs comes up & what there going to be doing i never hesitate a second to share your story sometimes i think well i dont want people to think that she was just a user because your werent. You had such a great heart & telling your story sometimes i wish they could understand what kind of person you were and then maybe it would impact them a little more, but we both know no matter how much you try to change someone it doesnt work unless it is the change they want in themselves. You know your walk to get sober wasnt easy & i havnt got completley sober yet, but you know that you help me each and everyday to get better and stronger in my goal to get sober. i love you and miss you

This website is beautiful and Kaitlyn was a very pretty girl. I know the family is still going through hard times and ever since i heard this story at one of the assemblies at my school i have prayed for her family. I had a friend that was once in drugs and gangs sisn't believe that God loved or anyone else. I talked to her about what she was doing to herself and her family. Till this day she is clean still fighting and i'm still there to help she has even gotten out of her gang and starting to get back with God. I talk to her everyday and I wonder if she didn't come talk to me would she stil be here. I would like to learn more about Kaitlyn and her life on earth and i wish that somehow i could go with you around schools and share this story that i have shered with you here tonight. God Bless You, Kaitlyn will never be forgotten.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I am so grateful that you are making the world a better place by sharing Kaitlyn's story. I am a fellow CTMH consultant and that's how I found out about Kaitlyn. My son has been in a similar situation and friends did call. He is clean now and moving on. I know that your Kaitlyn is in heaven watching over all of you down here as your guardian angel. Take care and keep your chin up. Thanks for the tribute you are making in your daughter's name.

Oh wow. Just hearing this song and seeing her beautiful face makes me want to cry. I have 4 very young nieces and I can only hope and pray that they have great friends that would rather worry about their well being than whether she will be mad at them for it. My heart goes out to Kaitlyn's family and friends whom I can only imagine miss her dearly. Hopefully Kaitlyn's death will help raise awareness enough so that someone else can live a long life. Love, April

My deepest synpathies. We lost our 16 year old Justin to a can of air freshener on Feb.18, 2002. Your pain is still so fresh...time never heals the hole left behind, you just learn how to navigate around it. I am currently working on an inhalant awareness program directed to young teens. I am trying to find out from parents what goals, dreams that their child had. [at the end of the presentation I have kids read a slip of paper with the name of a child that has died from inhalant abuse, the date they died, where they lived, and would like to add what that child's goals were. Then they light the paper on fire, and drop it into a container of water. I conclude with the students pulling out their own previously written goals and dreams and have them reread them silently to themselves, and remind them as they continue in their lives here if their actions and decisions help them reach those goals... On a more personal note, I kept a journal for well over 2 years and wrote to Justin every night in it. For me, it was very helpful in my journey of grief. It has also taken me about 4 years to garner the strength to talk publicly about the dangers of inhalant abuse. I am in awe of those parents who can speak so early in the face of such tragedy.

My friend Betty burke is a CTMH consultant and she passed this wed page on to me. I loved the web page and read the story and look at the pictures. My heart goes out to Kaitlyn's family and friends. My hope is that all the people who visit this site -kids, parents, grandparents, even neighbors - will speak about this to everyone who will listen. 4 years ago my daughter was in the dilemma that Kaitlyn's friends were in. She came to me and was scared that her friend would hate her if she told anyone of her friend's plan to commit suicide. I convinced her that even if her friend hated her the rest of her life, she would be alive to do that. I was extremely proud of my daughter as she chose her friend's life over their friendship and today they are still close friends. I can't say that her friend wasn't very angry BUT she got over it and his here with all the people who love her. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your friend a favor - tell! Tell anyone who will listen! Suicide, drugs, alcohol, whatever it is that YOU know is wrong...just tell. Chose life over anger.

And reading the words as a mother 'it is not my fault' really helps. Your loss, oh my my how it must hurt. I cannot imagin not waking up knowing I don't have my babies. Don't stop the mission and the message to tell someone! Kaitlyn is beautiful. I do believe God has a plan, and Kaitlyn's weakness has turned to your strength Mom to get this message to others. Your family is in my prayers!!!! Rene', CTMH

Kaitlyn was a wounderful person and I miss her so much and so does everyone else who knows her. She knew how to make someone laugh. Kaitlyn's promise show how life is so much better without drugs in our lives and we can be so much happier. I know life is so good cause i dont do drugs but my family does and i dont like it at all but i stay away from all of that and people that do it. Kaitlyn you are so loved by so many people and you will be miss. Miss you girl.

Here is another post on myspace -- another perspective AND just as important -- I am glad to see the dialog this has opened up. OAK RIDGE STUDENTS. [This isnt the same one everyone else is posting.] The way the other bulletin was written kind of pissed me off. They way I read it was, that because the deaths at Oak Ridge are drug or alcohol related, that we should look down on them. Guys, People make mistakes. And because they made a mistakedoesnt mean we should say "we need to learn from their mistakes" THEY ARENT PIECES OF SHIT. THEY WERE PEOPLE. JUST LIKE YOU. Just because Kaitlyn Vallery made the mistake she made, or Chris Wilmoth drove when he knew he shouldnt, doesnt mean we should sit around and be like "ALMOST EVERYONE IS IN DENIAL, AND ALMOST EVERYONE IS THINKING THAT IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAPPEN TO THEM." Dont sit there and say we should do something about it unless you actually are going to. Half of the people reposting that bulletin are probably getting high, or going to get drunk tonight. Thats bullshit. You dont say you are going to change because of the recent deaths when most people are just saying that to go along with everyone else. If you go to Oak Ridge, or have been to Oak Ridge, You know its like one big family. Everyone is connected somehow. Doesnt matter what race, what nationality, gender, or what grade your in. Everyone is affected by these deaths in someway. Whether they had a class with them, they knew them personally, or they have a friend who is greatly affected by their deaths. You cant just bluntly tell someone they shouldnt drink, or they shouldnt do drugs, because they are just going to either nod their head and pretend they wont, or they will just do the complete oppisite. WE ARE TEENAGERS. We arent fucking robots. We have emotions, and yeah, some think they need drugs or alcohol to cope. But just because they feel like they need that to feel okay, doesnt mean they are a piece of shit. Grieving is a long fucking process. You cant hurry it along, and you cant tell someone they need to be strong and that they should be leaders for all the students at Oak Ridge High School. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Let people cry, Let people be pissed, Let people show their emotions. We should look up to the "Oak Ridge Angels" not look down on them. Obviously GOD took them away for a reason. And whoever wrote the last one was right about some parts. We dont need drugs, its just a high, and we dont need beer, or liquor, its just a drink. GOD is going to test us, hes going to use us as pieces to his big plan. He is going to teach us lessons, and yeah, some of those may result in us losing someone important to us. GOD isnt just taking the Oak Ridge students who drink, or do drugs. Shay Davis didnt drink, Robert Burchfield didnt get high. What about the Coach shelton, he was a coach and teacher at Oak Ridge, did he drink and drive, or get high? What about Kimmy's Mom?! NOT EVERYONE AT OUR SCHOOL IS DYING BECAUSE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. We need to remember them all the same. for their smiles, laughter, and the memories we had with them. Theres a reason for everything. AND REMEMBER, GOD only takes the best. [RIP: Coach Shelton, Mrs. Kilpack, Jennifer Tyndall, Kaitlyn Vallery, Robert Burchfield, Shay Davis, Chris Wilmoth, and all the OR angels.] -Taylor Musgrove. you can repost this if you wish,if not, at least read it and think about it. thanks.

This was written by one of Kaitlyn and Jeremy's Friends -- please repost. Thanks, Cheri

I find it very devistating that our fellow classmates are passing the way that they are. What are we not catching on to?ALMOST EVERYONE IS IN DENIAL, AND ALMOST EVERYONE IS THINKING THAT IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAPPEN TO THEM. And if I'm wrong, then I am definately right about us not living like we could be next.

Don't you think that Chris Wilmoth, Kaitlyn Vallery, Jennifer Tyndall, Danielle Bennetzen (and the list goes on) thought, too, that it would never happen to them? None of these deaths were necessary. If you haven't realized this yet, the majority of these deaths were drug/alcohol related.

God gives us free will. PLEASE, remember that, FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. Is it really worth it for you to risk EVERYTHING, just for one high or one drunk? OF COURSE NOT!!!!! DUH! YOUR life is too precious. I think it's about time for Oak Ridge to WAKE THE FUCK UP, and start looking out for ourselves, and for eachother. Live for tomorrow's satisfaction.

Please pass this on,(i.e. REPOST IT) if you feel that it could help. I'm sure that you have friends on your list that I don't. You really never know when someone needs to hear something like this.

If I regret anything in my life, it's not posting something like this from the beginning, after Amanda Martin's passing (Jason Kelly's wreck), or even before anyone had to die the way they did. I just pray that we can use these deaths as an example. And I'm positive that our "Oak Ridge Angels" would want this too. Learn from their mistakes.

Do you really think any of these precious angels would want us to "get fucked up" one more time and risk everything, just to help pass the pain of grieving? OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES. PLEASE be careful out there, Oak Ridge.

Thanks, and God Bless All, Brittany Martin

today i was thinkin bout u. its been 6 months. just wanted to let you know im so very proud of you for being who you were. we were talking about you today at lunch and wondering if we would have turned you in or told on you if it would have made any difference and then Jeremy brought up the fact that you had been turned in before and we all did all we could and it helped for a while, but you and Jeremy were steadfast in your ways and knew that your day is already marked. Live life. What ever. Hope you are doing alright, and who ever posted that about wishin they could have done more and bout lettin her down... you have to know thats not true. even if you would have held her inside everyday and made sure she didnt do anything "dangerous" she was gonna pass. That was her day. much love for all the vallery family. <3 loverboy

I followed a link here from someone's message board posting. I live in the Woodlands. The odd thing is, I just started talking to my 6 year old about this kind of thing last night, when she picked up the bottle of nail polish remover and said it smelled good. She's young but she has friends with older siblings and you just never know what they'll see at a friends house. I am so sorry this happened.

My dear friend lost her brother just over 2 years ago in a similar situation. I know how hard it must be for Kailyn's family and you all are in my prayers. People, young and old, just do not know or understand the extreme dangers of huffing. We do a silent auction in memory of Matt and benefiting the NIPC and I take the opportunity to tell as many parents as I can about the dangers. Everyone needs to go to www.inhalents.org and learn all they can so that Matt & Kaitlyn's deaths may not be in vain. We all need to be aware of the dangers of inhalents to be able to prevent it. I would be glad to share any information that I have with anyone, please contact me.

Kaitlyn, I see your mom and your aunt posting on TwoPeas about how much they miss you and it kills me. I wish I knew what to say to them. I'm moving home to Houston soon and your mom has promised to meet up for lunch. Please give me some words to bring her even the tiniest amount of comfort. She loves you so much and misses you terribly. I was in town this week looking for a new house and one of the ones I looked at had an oRaNgE bedroom, just like your mom describes yours. It made me giggle and then I got sad because I never got to meet you. You touched so many lives, girlfriend, from here and from heaven. love-april

Hey Kid....I had to keep your Promise this week....and you know what...it is harder to do than I thought, especially when it involves your friends...I hope they are still my friends after the "ass chewing" I gave them...but saving a life is much more important...thanks for giving me the strength to do it....Love you more every day.

I new Kaitlyn a long time ago, and I would never think that out of everyone she would end up like this. She was always nice to me, when I would go over to my cousins house. (Taylor Moss) When I found I was very sad, she was very sweet. Be happy that she is gone because we know she is in a better place. Your family is in my prayers.

She was my cousin and i love her to the fullest and always will. Thank you for sending the braclets. The whole family is wearing them. I even have my friends wearing them also. i make sure i always have it. I'm not that big on jewlery but i make sure i have the braclet on. i remember the last yall came to Louisiana and we were in my room and was all wow your room has changed alot and i said really? She said yea i remember you having a lot of barbie dolls. I laughed because i didn't remember and i thought did i really have barbie dolls because i wasn't that much of a girlie girl, i probably was and didn't want to admit it at the time. Then uncle john came to visit and we were all eating at Tunk's resurant and he had a tomato on his plate and i was all eww i don't like tomatoes and he said really my daughter eats them like an apple and in my mind i was thinking wow thats pretty awesome that someone can eat a tomato like that. Thank you again for the braclets and we'll keep Kaitlyn in our prayers. (^.^)

Hi Cheri, John, and Jeremy, We got your beautiful Christmas card and the bracelets. I have been wanting to write and tell you how sorry I am for your loss for so long. You are all in my thoughts constantly. What can one say to ease the pain... I tried to think what words of consolation could help and realized there probably aren't any... Just being there for yall, praying for yall and spreading the word of Kaitlyns Promise are things Randy and I can do to help. I just want you to know that we LOVE ALL OF YOU SO VERY MUCH. I feel so blessed to be apart of your family. I am spreading the word of Kaitlyns Promise to everyone I can think of - Randy, Randon and I wear the bracelets all the time. We will miss seeing yall at Christmas but hope we can get together soon. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. I had not seen Kaitlyn for quite a few months before her passing-- what I remember more than anything about her was her beautiful smile and laugh. The pictures on the site of her are beautiful.. she had grown up so fast! Randy and I have some pictures of a BBQ at Mrs. Guidrys of all of us. As soon as I can find them, I will send them to you. We hope to see you all soon. Jeremey, I see that you have gotten so much taller now... is there a way I can talk you into coming over and beating up Randy? Vaughn comes over and roughs him up every now and then, but is too easy on him! Please tell everyone hello at Christmas. Randy, Randon, Kylie and I are doing fine. May this Christmas be one of peace for you... We love you and Merry Christmas. Love, The Guidrys.

My mother works with Mrs. Vallery and this is how i got to know Kaitlyn and Jeremy. I've been to their house and got to talk and hang out with them. i was glad to see these two kids because they were nice and cool. Jeremy and i used to work with perfect commerce and we talked a lot when we worked, he told me good things about his sister and family. kaitlyn was amazing person to talk to, she also worked at perfect commerce sometimes. She was sweet and funny. Mrs. Vallery is an awesome mom! So is Mr. Vallery because he can cook crawfish!!! well see you later kaitlyn, my family and i will always remember you.

What a beautiful tribute you have created for your daughter. I'm a myspace friend of Jeremy, and knew that he had lost his beloved sister, but didn't know the whole story. What a tragedy. I lost my favorite aunt the night she took "that last drink" forgetting that she'd taken a sleeping pill. I know that pain of that, but can't imagine what it would be like to lose a child, or a sister. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Wow I just saw a comment on Melody Ross's blog that brought me here to this site. Words can not even begin to express my sorrow for your family. I lost my 3 year old son Jaxon to childhood cancer and I know the loss that you all feel. It really stinks. I think what you guys are doing is wonderful. I think Kaitlyn is smiling down on you. We must do whatever we can to keep our children's memories alive. I am so sorry that you have to go thru this. I feel the pain you feel with the loss of your beautiful Kaitlyn. Our children are our greatest blessing, our greatest joy and in their passing is is our greatest sorrow. God bless you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Kaitlyn, you always had a beautiful smile. I was your YMCA Counsler at Ford Elementary. When you came from La. I did my best to make you fit in. Then I saw you at CVS about 3 years ago. I had a long talk with you about drugs and how much you could mean to this world with out them and I also had a lond talk with you about your relationship with your mother. I prayed that I got through your thick and beautiful head when I left. All I could do was say Lord please help you. There was always something about you that I loved, I don't know if it was your eyes, your longing to do better or your energy, but what ever it was I never for got you. I will remember you the way you were and I am very heavy hearted about your death. I will pray to ask the Lord to give you my love. I hope that something I said to you made a difference somehow.

Cheri, We met way back from the "Days at Splitrock". You were there for me and even opened up your home to me at a time when my girls and I needed. Now here I am saying I am there for you any time, DON'T YOU FORGET THAT! The love and closeness your family shared was great. When I saw you at the mall and you told me what happened, my heart cryed. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to love and have friendship with a daughter. You and Kaitlyn looked so much alike. I am so very sorry for what happened, and for the loss you and your husband and son feel. Losing my mom 5 years ago was hard, but I have always been told it is harder for a parent to lose their child. You had an incredible amount of love for your family. You are a great Mom and Kaitlyn will always be with you. I can not even imagine how you feel. But you made me realize what goes on out there, even at College Park Hih School, somewhere my girls will soon go. I will share this story and the bracelets with Sarah and Megan, and all their friends. I share my sadness with you Cheri, and am here for you anytime you need. Love, Susan (ex-Hussey)

When my friend first gave me the bracelet my only thought was that it was a sweet gesture on someone's part to honor Kaitlyn's life. This morning, I happend to notice it on my wrist and got curious so I looked at the website. I was both shocked and touched and came to realize how unaware I am about what some of the kids are doing today. I have know idea what dusting, huffing or whipits are. Talk about being out of touch. My child is grown and thankfully clean. I intend to learn more about it though so that I can recognize the signs if I see it in my friend's children. I will honor Kaitlyn's promise. God Bless. Alan

I AM TRULY SORRY TO HEAR THAT SHE DIED BUT SHE WILL INSPIRE A LOT OF PEOPLE NOT TO DO DRUGS. IF SHE HAD SURVIVED, SHE WOULD HAVE TOLD MANY PEOPLE NOT TO USE DRUGS, THAT THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO HER AND THAT SHE WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT AGAIN. AGAIN I AM TRULY SORRY THAT SHE PASSED, BUT SHE IS NOW IN A BETTER PLACE HEAVEN. THE STORY THAT WAS WRITTEN ABOUT HER INSPIRED ME TO NEVER USE DRUGS. I HOPE THAT SHE STAYS IN YOUR HEARTS.

Cheri and Stef - Harold and Faye, Our thoughts and prayers are with you each and every day. Just wanted you to know that I will be spreading the word of Kaitlyn's death at the kids' school. I am chairman of a class that is taught by trained volunteers called Project Charlie. Charlie stands for CHemical Abuse Recognition Lies In Education. I am going to give all of the volunteers at our meeting on Wednesday a copy of Faye's beautiful letter to the editor and recommend that they visit Kaitlyn's Promise. I am going to make sure that her death will not be in vain and perhaps through the testimony of your web site, another's life may be saved. God Bless You all and know that mom, dad, and Uncle Russell think of you often as well! Love you all, Angela

Kaitlyn...your Mom and Aunt Stef posted today on TwoPeas that the bracelets for Kaitlyn's Promise were ready so I zipped over and bought a few. I have a niece named Katelyn. She's 14 and I cant handle the idea of losing her the way your mom and tatante lost you. I'm going to give her a bracelet and beg her to call me anytime she even thinks about giving in to the pressures you kids face these days. I'm moving home to Houston soon, and if it means bringing her with me to bring you flowers to drive home the point to her, I'll do it. I know you're a busy angel, Kaitlyn, but if you could watch over my Katelyn when you have time, I'd really appreciate it. Love, April

Losing a loved one hurts forever. I lost my wife to cancer even though she never smoked or did anything that would encourage cancer. Her death also didn't make any sense. Two children still at home and a husband who struggles daily without her. I have asked myself a lot of questions in the last 5 years. My answer is to live life so that I leave people behind that I have touched and will love me and will also miss me forever but know that I'm ok being with the Lord. May God be with you in your lose and your Promise.

I just finished reading a letter Kaitlyn's granmother sent to the editor of our newspaper. It was in response to the expulsion of several students at one of our middle schools for having drugs on campus, some of them honor students. This really hits home with me - I have 2 daughters, 17 and 15. We were just in the Woodlands last weekend for a band competition and saw the band from Kaitlyn's high school perform. There's so many great things for our kids to get involved in and we as parents need to take the time to be involved with them and let them know the door is always open to listen. My heart breaks for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you all of you that loved Kaitlyn. My thanks to Mrs. Landry for sharing her story with the people of Lafayette. This is something we all need to be aware of.

It was hard for me to read the email I received with the link to this site when I received it. I was instantly saddened and the tears just rolled down my face. I work for Forney ISD and am the secretary to our school resource officers and was not even aware of something like this. You hear about the dangers of all the drugs, but this is something new to me (even as young as I am -21). The reason it scares me so much is because I have a daughter (still an infant) and it is so hard to think that after all you do to protect them, there are just things that you can't help because you simply don't know. She may still be small but these are things she will face when she gets older and I am so thankful for the information out there. I have forwarded this email and website to all my friends, coworkers, and anyone who has children. Kaitlyn's death will not be in vain and hopefully it will spare the lives of many others. Thank you so much for this helpful website and touching story. May God bless you and your family. You all are in my prayers.

Hey i am so very sorry about Kaitlyn today as i was in my Teen Leadership class,my teacher was teaching us a leason on why not to do drugs.Because that is what teenagers get themselves into.Today i did a little project on Kaitlyn because i thought people need to know what is happening, and how we need it to stop.Kaitlyn is a very pretty girl and deservied to live a much longer life. And because of her and many other teenagers that have died of drugs more and more people learn not to do drugs. In one of the pictures i saw that she went to York junior high thats were i go to know.Again im sorry about what happend to her and best wishes to all! sincerly, Lauren Lantrip

annette, i can also relate to you. only im not a teacher... but i know 7 girls who are preganant/have kids this school year. I also know of people who were doing drugs, but now are getting help. One thing i've heard my mom discussing is the idea that when my sister's friends were getting caught, why didnt they tell my mom. why didnt they let the kid's friend's parents know that their kid was caught doing whatever drugs, warning them to check their own kids. </> Also if you know of students doing things, even if rumored, investigate it, once you hear someone talkin about it it almost becomes your responsibility to let someone who can help know or go straight to their parents, because i know there were teachers who heard me and my sister talking, i mean they've talked to be about after the fact, and yea, it may make em upset, it will probably get them in trouble but they need it... </> well good luck and thanks for showing your support </> - Big Bro aka *Star[RR]*

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Kaitlyn's family. I work at a local highschool and just the thought of knowing how many teenagers let alone preteens find doing any kind of drug is exciting. They talk about it as if no one else but them are around. I work with emotionally distrubed children some do have serious issues but it is not them that I hear so much from. It is the typical students. The jocks, the cheerleaders and the students you would never think of doing any such thing. There have been a couple suicides but I have yet to hear anyone doing inhalants. I know it is there but no one talks about that. Then with the drugs comes sex. There were 6 pregnant teens last year. The youngest was 14. Three years ago a 12 year old had a baby. It would be so much helpful if friends would tell their friends parents what is going on. But unfortunately their friends are probably doing it too and are afraid then that their parents would also find out. This generation has gone down hill. Children don't have respect for their parents let alone themselves. And we are responsible for their behavior.

Even though I never met Kaitlyn or her family, I feel as if I knew her mom from the scrapbooking website we both frequent. I was so sad to hear of her passing, until this was published I didn't even know how she died. I am in awe of the strength that it took Kaitlyn's family to post this to the world. Kaitlyn's death brought "what could happen" to "what did happen" here in The Woodlands. Sometimes our teenagers think they are invincible, that it will never happen to them. Thank-you for using Kaitlyn's terrible death as a way for all of us to learn from it as parents and children. It must be so very difficult for you to share what happened, but it makes all of us look, read, share, and talk about it. Hopefully, Kaitlyn's story will save others' lives. Thank-you and God bless you family! Lori

I just found out last night Oct. 6 that Kaitlyn had passed away. I cannot say that I had the privlege of ever meeting or knowing her. However, I did know Jeremy from Lifeteen and from just his presence at boy scouts. I remember I bought a Christmas wreath from him and he was so happy. He was always so kind and gracious and always said hello to me when we passed at church. I am sorry for not knowing this earlier and I cannot imagine the pain that Cheri and Jon and Jeremy must endure. But I do know that this website will never make Kaitlyn forgotten or invisible. She will be remembered and thought of often. My heart and prayers and daily hope go out to you and yours. I rememeber her face from St. Anthony's and although God has called her to Him, she shall not be forgotten. May God's grace and love HOLD you the rest of your lives and may you always know, God did not necessarily give Kaitlyn to you, but rather you to her. She is who she was because of all you gave her. This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul!!! May she rest forever in His care and you also. Many prayers and thoughts,-- I am so very sorry especially to you Jeremy!!, Marion Horn -- Lifeteen Core Member 2003-2005

wow, Daniella, thats amazing... she was so proud of that rehab, and me and her have some amazing memories there... all i know is she is, and i am, and plenty of people are so very proud that you took the first step... the right step, all you have to do is hold up your end of the bargin and keep going through it... its very tough but ya know... in the end its all worth it... to those of you who are still out there just reading these or just hearing about it, commenting and forgetting it, your clearly not gettin the message... if you are willing to type on here your commiting to helping the cause... we dont need anyone else to go through this because it just flat out sucks... so just a word of advice. Actions speak MUCH louder than words, and i cant tell you how many times that has been proven to me in my life. Kait -- i miss you... you know it... but you better be havin a good time up there... love you so effn much baby sis!!! muah!

A letter to Kaitlyn the Tuesday After she passed away:
Dear Kaitlyn, We all skipped school today, Kaitlyn. We couldn't and can't stand you not being right there with us. You changed our lives for the better in every possible way and you will be missed forever. We will never forget you, Kaitlyn. You will never leave my heart. You taught me so much, basically to enjoy life when the going gets tough. You taught me to hold my head high when no one was there for me. You were my friend. I will still talk to you about my problems all the time. You made me realize that no matter what situation you're in, there's always time for a good laugh. I just want you to know that your birth, your life, and your death have changed lives. Everyone you've met, everyone you've talked to had been touched by you and the laughter every second of your life brought. Basically, you're fucking amazing. I wanted to tell you that I loved you but I just didn't have the chance. I wish I could've known you better. I think we all feel that way. You were an amazing person and I've cried non-stop just thinking about how easy and fast someone so special to you can by brutally taken away. Everyone will come to your funeral, not to mourn, but to celebrate what a great person you were and always will be. I love you, Kaitlyn, I always will, and no one will ever forget you.
Kaitlyn's death has affected my life greatly. She made me realize that I had a problem and needed to go into rehab. I spent 25 days in an inpatient treatment facility. When you graduate from this place you put your hand in paint, press it onto the wall, put your name, and your sobriety date. One day when i was waiting for everyone to get ready so we could go to breakfast, I turned and saw her hand on the wall. "Kaitlyn V. 2004" . It was like a sign that what I was doing was clearly wrong and that if I graduate and put my hand on the wall, stayed sober for a year, and then relapsed, I would end up exactly like her. That's how Kaitlyn changed my life.

My sincere sympathy to the family. The death of a child can be devastating to a family. But I believe that you are doing something positive in Kaitlyn's honor with this website. Her story touches many and if this can change the life of only 1 person, it is worth it, but I believe that it will change the lives of many. God bless you all.

The grief of losing a child is overwhelming. I commend you for this site. Hopefully children and parents will see this site and realize there is somethings out there that kids just want to do once, then move on. Unfortunately, sometimes God has other plans, my prayer for you is that this helps other parents of teens realize it can happen to just about anyone. God Bless you for this site. Laura

I heard Vince Gill on Sunday night...and the words to this song just stuck with me.... "I know your life on earth was troubled; and only you could know the paid. You weren't afraid to face the devil; you were no stranger to the rain....Oh, how we cried the day you left us. We gathered round your grave to grieve; I wish I could see the angels faces when they hear your sweet voice sing...Go rest high on that mountain...your work on earth is done....Go to heaven a shoutin' love for the Father and the Son" I know you are happy and safe and are keeping others happy and safe....Love Ya!

My daughter was friends with Kaitlyn some years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting her when she came over after school. Maggie thought Kaitlyn was so sweet and liked her very much. She did go to the funeral. She was very sad. We talked of Kaitlyns trials with huffing and how maggie thought she had kicked it. My daughter is very aware now of what can happen. Thanks you for having this website.

I do not know your family, but was touched deeply by this. As a parent and grandmother, all you want is the best for your children and hope and pray you can do the right thing. Then something like this happens and you wonder where did I go wrong and guilt just about destroys you, but know that you did not do anything wrong! it can happen to anyone any time, all we can do as parents is do the best we can, pray and talk to our children. God is there and he does see us and hear us. God bless you and stay strong.

Kaitlyn shouldnt have died the way that she did. she had her whole life ahead of her. i know for a fact that i will be keeping kaitlyn's promise. i dont want to see another one of my friends die because of drugs or something stupid like that. if i knew that she was doing that again i would have told someone. i wouldnt have cared if she was going to be mad at me or not. i could have saved her life. i would much rather have her mad at me then dead. PLEASE! if you know someone whos doing something like that tell someone. its sad that somehting like this had to happen before it opened up our eyes and made realize that its not right to do that. i wish none of this would have happened. theres no reason for you to go out and do that it doesnt do anything but hurt you. if you want to stop but you cant tell your parents tell kaitlyns parents they're there for you. they dont want for another death to happen because of drugs or something like that. if you're afraid to talk to them, then talk to jeremy, he's awesome he will listen. I remember that Kaitlyn, Shannon and I used to sit by each other and joke around all the time. We never really did our work. Kaitlyn was a great girl who knew how to make you smile and she always stood up for you if someone was making fun of another person. she never took crap from anybody. i just hope that if someone has a problem with drugs or anything else then they would tell someone. nobody wants for this to happen to anybody else. I personally have never done any drugs at all and i dont plan on it. i miss Kaitlyn so much she was always there for you and she could always put you in a better mood. Thank you for making parents aware of the dangers our kids are putting themselves into. As the parent of a 15 year old daughter who is a "good girl" as I am sure Kaitlyn was, it is a terrifying thought that she could be doing something like this right beneath our noses. And we'd let her all in the name of "privacy" thinking she was innocently taking a bath like any other day. I am sending this link TO my daughter and asking her to put it on her "MySpace" and to send it to everyone on her buddy list. Kaitlyn is a beautiful girl and what you are doing to honor her memory is a beautiful thing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I knew Kaitly because she was one of my neices best friends. She was a sweet kid that baby sat for me a few times. I know the kind of person that she was.... she would never have wanted to hurt her friends and family like this. I believe most kids doing this stuff just don't think about the consequences that COULD happen. I hope all of her friends think about this and make better choices. It can happen to anyone, even those that don't have a history.

Hello. I saw this "page" and Stephanie's prayer request for Kaitlyn's family on the EBTL Prayer Board. I am a prayer warrior there. I want you to know that I am praying for Kaitlyn's mother and family. I am really praying, that God comforts their hearts, and gives them a clear understanding of the fact that Kaitlyn is with Jesus. She closed her eyes here, and when she opened them, she was looking at the loving face of our Lord, with His arms wide open. You will see her again. May God Bless You all and heal your hearts. I am forwarding this page of your beautiful daughter and friend to all my prayer partners. Kaitlyn's life was a blessing, and she was here. But I am sure that even in death, she will accomplish as much as she might have in life on earth, by saving just one life; by stopping just one other child from a mistake. She is serving the Lord, and she is right next to Him in heaven, smiling down on all of you, hoping you can understand the purpose of her time here. With much love, Rose

I have known Kaitlyn since she was 3 years old. I was saddneed and would have never thought in a million years I would hear her mother tell me " Kaitlyn died 3 weeks ago". Her tragic death ended because of drug use that has left me stunned and shocked. She came from such a loving and caring family that I am surprised that no one ever told them what danger Kaitlyn was encountering. I hope these kids realize how hard it is for a parent to bury a child. There is HELP out there. One day you will want a family of your own and hope you never encounter what the Vallery's will have to live with for the rest of their lives.PLEASE GET HELP, PLEASE GET HELP... Kaitlyn you are sadly missed by all who knew you and I know you are up there watching over them. I guess your friends are the lucky ones who still have a chance to make a difference in their life. I just wish you were as lucky as them. Your spirit will live on among all of us...

Hi. I didn't know your daughter and she didn't know me. But the other day my mom told me about how she found a can of dusting solution behind our house. An empty can. She warned us (like she always does) about how this is so dangerous. I thought that it was scary that kids had such easy acess to such a dangerous drug. But I didn't think much more of it. The day at College Park that they announced that Kaitlyn had died, of course the rumors began to circulate. I figured I would never know which was true because I never knew Kaitlyn. To find out that the way she died was connected to my life struck something in me. The can behind our house said it all: Kids in my neighborhood were already addicted. It frightens me that things like this can happen so close to you. To the neighbor kids a few houses down. To a family member. Thank you for being so brave and spreading the knowledge could save a kid's life.

My daughter, Taylor Wilmes, had the privilege of knowing Kaitlyn. She felt very blessed to have known her, if even for a short time. Taylor has always been against the use of drugs, however, due to Kaitlyn's death, she is even now more adamant upon getting the word out to all of her friends and anyone else to just say no. Taylor is a very strong young lady and I know she will do whatever it takes to ensure that Kaitlyn's promise will be fulfilled.

I am first of all, shocked that something so easily found around the house, can be abused to cause such a horrific tragedy. We as parents try so hard to speak to our children about the obvious (sex, drinking, drugs etc..) that sometimes we think that we have said it all...over and over... I myself have never even thought or even heard of this type of popular "getting high" method. Your message here is a powerful one. Kaitlyn's Promise has changed my way of thinking this morning. I cried and laughed at her precious pictures and mourn the loss of child...a child that could be any one of our children. Thank you.

I just wanted to thank you for trying to raise awareness of this deadly new way of "getting high". I don't think that people realize how long this has been going on for. I've know about it since I was in Junior High in 1991. Similar to this situation is a popular activity of choking yourself while sex or masturbation to enhance your orgasm. I had a friend from high school who was choking himself while masturbating and hung himself on accident. So sad to hear about these things.

I am so sorry for your loss. My daughter is 14 and my son is 13. Because of Kaitlyn, I have spoken to them about the dangers of "dusting". As a parent, we know that we have to educate our children about illegal drugs. It's mind boggling to know that we also have to teach them about the dangers of abusing household products. I am grateful that in your grief, you have helped me educate my children about this particular danger, before they were exposed to it.

I am so very sorry for the misery and suffering that your family is experiencing.I have watched Kaitlyn's video, listened to the music, gone to the links and read all of the love expressed in the guest book-such a beautiful light extinguished so needlessly. I am inspired by your strength and have shared the story with both of my teenage sons(and everyone I can think of). Through your efforts, your promise, Kaitlyn's life will make a difference. I am so very sorry, Kaitlyn is a beautiful young girl. She had so much life ahead of her. Kaitlyn is not that different from many other high school kids. Wether they are trying drugs, alcohol or dusting. Many kids "try". We all think that 'trying' something to get high is just that, something to try. No one ever "trying" something believes it will kill them. But it does, it can and eventually it will. One way or another, part of you dies. (your integrity, your character, your brain cells, or you) I pray for Kaitlyn's family, I can only imagine the incredible pain they must feel. It seems it would be unbearable, unthinkable. Thank you for the courage to share her story with us all. Maybe, just maybe, this will indeed change the mind of a teen who wants to "just try" it. Getting high is not something new, it is however, something illegal, dangerous and deadly. High takes away your control, it takes away your ability to make a good decision, it takes away some of your friends, it seperates you from your family, dont let it take your life! My prayers are with you, Kaitlyn's family, may god bless you and hold you so very close now and always!

I plan to discuss this website and information with my own Caitlyn Nicole, who will be 15 tomorow (as well as her two younger brothers). My heart goes out to your family for your loss, and I pray we can all help pass the word and help in this matter. My daughter recently married, and I was so sad about losing her from my home, however she is still in my life. I cant imagine your loss, but I will say to you that someone is with you allways, never forget that. I will committ to you a promise to carry this Promise from Kaitlyn of educating our youth on this matter. I serve on a Commission dealing with Crime Prevention, and it will be on my agenda for the 20th of this month. David W Allen & Family

My name is Mary and Kaitlyn was in my geometry class last year. I would sit next to her every day and we would talk about everything especially of how proud she was of herself for being sober for 8 months straight. I was so proud of her too. I regret not getting to know her better. She was a great friend to me. In that class i would get made fun of by a huge group of guys. It was Kaitlyn who stood up for me and told them to stop. She was a great friend to me even though i didnt know her that well. Kaitlyn was always jokin around about how stupid I was. She always made me laugh. She was just a ver easy person to talk to and to have fun with. She was a great girl. Kaitlyn was so smart too. Her only problem wa that she didnt try hard enough in school. I bet that if she tried she would have been really good at anything she wanted to be good at. Kaitlyn was an easy person to get to know. She was an easy person to get along with and become great friends with. She knew how to treat people the right way. I miss her so much. Seeing her at the viewing made me cry my eyes out because she looked like an angel. She was so beautiful that i couldnt take it anymore. I cried to people that i never got along with because a death brings everyone closer together. She showed me that life is short and you need to live life to its fullest. You need to love your family and always tell them that you do. You need to let them understand that you love them because one day you might be gone forever and you would never get to tell the people that you love how much you love them. So I want to thank you Kaitlyn. You showed me what love really is. You showed me that things can happen. You never know what could happen and you never could believe that bad things could happen to you until they do. I miss you terribly Kaitlyn. I love you dearly. You will always be in my heart. I will always remember you. I will always remember you smile and the happy times we shared together. Rest In Peace girl. I know that you are in a better place. Just know that I love you girl and that I will never forget you. You are in my prayers. Love, Mary Goldknopf goodbye Kaitlyn

When I wear the ribbon to work, alot of the 5th and 6th graders ask me what that ribbon symbolizes. I tell them and most of them say they have heard of someone doing drugs. I tell them they need to let the counselor know so she can help them, but they will not know who told because the counselor will not tell on them. I hope this will help our feeder zone right here in Oak Ridge.

Dearest Vallery Family, I have never had the honor of meeting you but I work at St. Anthony of Padua Church and have been touched by your story. I have three young children ages 9,7 and 5 whom I treasure. I cannot even imagine the pain you are feeling right now. At some point in your journey I would benefit from learning how to look for signs/struggles from raising teens. I am concerned about that stage for my own children and I don't want to go into it blind. My God watch over your family during this terrible time and give you strength in your day. Please know many people care about you. God Bless, Stephanie Newlun

I want to join in the might! I was shocked as I spoke with several of Kait's friends at her funeral. They addmitted to me that they experimentaion with drugs began when they were my students at Vogel. There is something in young people that cries out for healing. They need to stop a pain so deep they are willing to risk their lives.....I believe the answer is JESUS. Not religion, not good works, but a SAVIOR! I am committed to help!

Dear Vallerys, This is a beautiful tribute to the memory of such a special soul, Kaitlyn. You are right, she did not die in vain. I am going to have my "Kate" check out this website so she can have closure to the sadness she still feels for the loss of her old childhood friend. We mourn with you and we will spread the word about this kind of drug abuse. I just know that many lives will be touched and saved for what you are doing here, and that God will bless it abundantly.

I have an 11 year old son and we have had the "Drug" talk many times and the stresses of just being above the influence of others or substance...but what if I don't talk about the dangers of inhaling things laying around my house...what if he learns about this from a friend who says it's not drugs...when it is a substance that can kill you...We will be revisiting the drug issue. I want to thank you for this site and the education it has given me. Thank you to Juanita for passing it on to me. Kaitlyn's promise will be remembered in my house. Bless you

I lost my 17-year-old son when someone slipped some unknown street drug into his coke. Kaitlyn did not die in vain. The testimonies I've read show Kaitlyn is making a huge difference in the lives of others. As a parent that is still coping with the loss of a child, I commend you for trying to reach other teens through Kaitlyn's story. I will pass this on to my step-daughter who just turned 14.

I have read Kaitlyn's story and Promise. She seems like a lively and lovely young woman. I mourn your loss. Please accept my condolences. I have known too many people with addictions whether to illegal drugs, RX meds or alcohol. I hope that Kaitlyn's story can help with those that look at this type of experimenting with such casualness and see that it can lead to death so easily. If they cannot help themselves now I know it will be more difficult as time goes on...becoming more and more of an addiction that they can not conquer. Bless those that are using Kaitlyn's promise as the gift it is meant to be and hopefully to more as time goes on.

Kaitlyn did not die in vain. As a counselor at TWHS, we have seeen many lives changed forever because of her tragic death. Many students came to report drug pushers and abusers. They came pleading for help with their own drug abuse problems and have vowed never again to fall into that trap. Five have committed to substance abuse treatment centers. Kaitlyn will remain foremost in our hearts with her legacy which lives on. Her loss has made a profound difference in the lives of so many students. We want to memorialize her during red ribbon week in October at our school's program. Our prayers are with her family and friends.

Im so glad I had transfered back the week before you passed. I knew there was a reason to go back to CP and I had feeling if I hadnt of gone back I would've regreted it and now I know what it was. Very few people know, I'm a big user. I popped oxycontin, hydrocodone, adderall and many other things. I would mix pills and drink alcohol with them because I didn't care. I even drove my mom to pick up food when I was all messed up and lucky for us my mom noticed and took the wheel.

So many teenager do this kind of stuff and don't think that they are doing anything wrong. they say the are not doing drugs and that it can't hurt them. I am here to tell you that that is a load of crap it can hurt them, it destorys your brain cells, brain cells in the end that will destory your life if you don't stop right this very minute . Teenagers listen to me, there is more to life, just because you are young does not mean you are invincicble. All it takes is, "I am only going to do it ONE more time and then I will quit," then the one more time turns into to weeks and months and then your parents are visting you in the emergency room from an overdose or worse yet because you have finally pushed the limit and got the ultimate high you have been looking for, now your parent will have to pick you up in the morgue.. STOP now, don't take that next huff, hit, pill. There are too many adults and peers out there who are there for you, who want to help you. Who have been where you are at and made it through only by the grace of God.. Who don't want you to take that next wrong step, find them, talk to them, get some help know, don't wait. Also know that God is always there, just fall on your knees, turn to Him, ask him to take this addiction away from you and give it to Him, he will bear you burdens

Kaitlyn touched my son joshua, And in that moment after her death he came clean about how deep his use of drugs was. He came clean to me..his mom. They hung out together and unfortunately, they also used together. Her death was a tragedy, but out of that tragedy i was given my son back to me..his road to recovery will be long and filled with peer pressure to use again..but whenever he gets to feeling like he wants to use..he turns to the shrine he built for her in his room and he asks her for the strength to say no.When he is at school..i go to her shrine and i thank her for the continued strength she gives to him..kaitlyn you will never be forgotten in our household..I have been talking to all of your friends kaitlyn..and i have made myself open for them to come to..i will help them get the help and support they need to stop using, this i do in your name...Big Momma

I forwarded this to everyone. It is urgent to get the message out to parents. As parents, we need to step up and pay attention to EVEYTHING your teens are doing. My experience has been this: If you think your kid is doing something wrong....you are probably right. Follow your instincts! Also- if you are the parent of a teen and think they are not exposed to all of this...YOU ARE WRONG!!!!

I am so sorry to hear of this! My aunt used to sniff paint, gas, or whatever. She got off of the stuff a long time ago(I am very proud of her for doing this) but she still suffers from having done it. When she gave birth to her daughter, she had a hard time breathing. Now she is in her 50's and has a really hard time with everything. I will keep Kaitlyn's family in my thoughts and prayers. And HEY JENNA, keep up the faith and just take one day at a time! You can do it because you are stronger than you think! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers also!

God bless you for having the courage to share your ordeal. I have to wonder why kids don't believe us when we're telling them of dangers such as these. I think we (society) are letting them down somewhere by not being emphatic with our warnings. I will definately talk about your blessed Kaitlyn's tragedy to the young people in my life ! Thank You

I found out about Kaitlyn from the 2 Peas in a Bucket message board. Although my kids are grown now, my husband and I did go through having a child who was abusing drugs and inhalants. He is clean now but I understand the dangers of inhalants to young teens in particular. It is so sad that they just don't understand the consequences of abusing could mean death. To Kaitlyn's family, I pray for peace for you and healing over time. God bless you.

I may not have known Kaitlyn, but the tragedy broke my heart. I went home after learning of her death and I spoke to my children. I asked them to PLEASE come to me if anything like this is going on with them or their friends. I explained it is better for the friend to be mad for them telling, than for them to feel guilt for not speaking up and losing a friend foolishly. I do not wish upon any parent to learn of this in the way that Kaitlyn's parents had to.

This is just another example of how easily it is for children/teenagers to try something like this without any knowledge of what it could do to them. They see, or have heard of, their friends inhaling these products and think it is so "cool." Any of us can have relatives or friends who will lose their lives without any hint that this could be their final act on earth. It is important to educate everyone on the consequences. May God Bless Kaitlyn's family. You are in our prayers.

Thank you for sharing Kaitlyn's story. I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Your website inspired me to talk to my ten year old stepson about the dangers of huffing and other drugs. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd have to talk to a 10 year old about drugs. But we too have these things laying around the house, and I know not talking about it could lead to tragedy.

Well i first met Kaitlyn througha friend. We were going to the same A/A program that my friend introduced me to.. There was a weekend called FRIO weekend. held by the A/A program and for lifeway kids. Thats when me and kaitlyn first got close. She had been sober for a year and she was helping me through my sobriety! She was amazing with her words and with her encouragement.. After Frio we kept in touch for a while... but not as well as i would have liked. The summer of 2006 we began hanging out agian. DOing the wrong thing together... Things started getting out of hand and it scared me a little so a week before kaitlyns death i became sober.. I have now been sober for 3 and a half weeks and i will continue to stay this way TO KAITLYNS PROMISE

Another way Kaitlyn has touched my life is for as long as i can remember i have always wanted to be some sort of journalist. But ive always been to busy getting high or doing bad things to get my butt in gear to write things. < wich is what i love to do. This past week i wrote an article for the woodlands high school, school paper " the calodonian" on Kaitlyns Promise... because it inspired me..... and my article made it into the school news paper wich should be out next friday the 15th of sept. i finally feel like i have accomplished somthing

This has been tragic for Kaitlyns family, fiends and people like me that never had the opportunity to meet such a beautiful young lady. They say things like this happen for a reason. Reasons that most of us here on earth just can't explain. My prayers go out to her family and her friends. Please never be afraid to tell on someone that could cause harm to themselves. I had a friend that passed away at 40 yrs old, last month from an over dose and no one, even at our age had the guts to tell on him.... Keep the love in all of your hearts and sometime the right things to do in life are the hardest. In time you that are young will see that life is very short and when we reflect we should have no regrets of doing the right things in life... GOD, will be there for each of you - and my prayers will be there too.
